Welcome

Ellen Faynleyb.
Utilitarian Ceramisist

I am a woman who loves playing with dirt.
I have been fascinated with ceramics, since a very young age. Clay holds a special meaning to me, plus wheel-throwing is pure tranquility. Whenever I am working in the studio, I get lost in the creative process and the time runs away from me. I start out by first considering the possible usage I foresee for my vessel, then shape and size. Clay allows me to bring those visions into fruition and I love the connection to the earth and traditions. I like my wares to be light and pleasing to the eye. My cultural background encourages me to create my pieces with grace, style, and character.
My primary focus tends to be on that “perfect coffee mug.” As a long-time coffee drinker, I have always been particular about what kind of mug I use for my “morning-joe.” That cup has to fit comfortably into my hand and also feel balanced. It has to be a certain size. Most coffee drinkers, I know, do not want a small cup of coffee. Furthermore, it had to hold a connection or meaning. A carved design, an inspirational painting, or a motivational/sarcastic quote of sorts. Whichever vessel I create, I would like for them to be enjoyed and to bring pleasure to those who use them. Whether it be to consume their meals or favorite drinks, hang on the wall, or simply to be used as a “catch-all” jar.
